If you’re as much a foodie as I am, then you’d know that evening tea isn’t just any drink — it’s an occasion. But that vibe is completely spoiled, no matter how good your glow sticks are, if the snacks are lame as hell. For years now I’d been looking for that perfect taste; all the way since my childhood trips to Madhya Pradesh. Most of what we receive in the big city super markets is plain junk made out of maida soaked in too much palm oil. But then, I discovered The Malwa Story and I am pretty sure my snack game will never be the same again.
I was raised in a home where snacks were not just a type of food, they were a mood. “Good, fresh besan and good, fresh spices is what makes the best namkeen,” my dadi would say. Once I moved out of the city for work, I missed it so much - that “ghar wala” feel. I sampled every brand on the shelf, but they all tasted the same — flavorless and oily.
So one fine day, I was bitten by some strong pangs of nostalgia and started to search online about Ratlami Sev Near Me, hoping to find some local shop. What I found instead, was a site on Ujjain itself. That is how I found The Malwa Story. I was a bit hesitant at first, but the reviews were so great that I bought them.
It came in the mail and I have to say the packaging was very sturdy. Now I unlocked the first Ratlami Sev Packet and the smell then it was..wow! It did not smell of old oil; it smelled of fresh cloves and black pepper. You know that pungent, spicy aroma that feels like it makes your mouth water the second you smell it? Yeah, that.
I grabbed a bunch, and the crunch was just what I needed. It isn’t hard like a rock, but it has that “khasta” texture, which will soften slightly after the first bite. It’s very addictive, I can promise you that. I drank half the bag before my tea was done!

After my first success, I set out to try more varieties because, well, why not? There is not enough time to waste on boring food. The Malwa Story I also found had many traditional options that you don’t normally get in regular stores.
For people who enjoy a little kick to their palette, Ratlami Sev is certainly the king. But the best part is that they don’t use maida. Most places mix it to keep costs low, but here the Ratlami Sev Namkeen is light on the stomach. It’s all gram flour (besan) and you really notice the difference in the quality.
Now feeling for garlic, then Garlic Sev is a must try. Strong but well-balance pungentness of lehsun. Wonderful with a hot cup of ginger tea or even added on to the top of your everyday Poha. I even slipped it into a sandwich just once and never looked back.

If you’re looking for something that opens up your nose and leaves fresh sensation, give Loung Sev a try. The clove taste is pretty strong. It takes some getting used to for some, but those who hail from Malwa consider this namkeen as the gold standard.
